APPROACH TO THERAPY

“Sometimes when things fall apart, well, that’s the big opportunity to change.” – Pema Chödrön

My therapeutic approach is grounded in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and integrates elements from a variety of other evidence-based treatments (i.e., treatments that research has shown to work well for a broad range of individuals), including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC), Motivational Interviewing (MI), and Parent Management Training-Oregon Model (PMTO). I work to understand and affirm each person's individual perspectives and understanding of the world. I welcome clients from all backgrounds, cultures, and identities.

"The word ‘healing’ is derived from the word ‘whole.’ Healing then is a return to ‘wholeness’ – not a return to ‘sameness.’”

– Dr. Amitha Kalaichandran
